2023 Virginia Artists Juried Exhibition

The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center is proud to present the 2023 Virginia Artists Juried Exhibition. This statewide annual competition exhibition is an exciting glimpse of the many talented artists of our region. This year 452 artworks were submitted by 170 artists for consideration. Our juror Erik H. Neil, the Macon and Joan Brock Director at The Chrysler Museum of Art selected 103 works from 71 artists for the exhibition.

Juror's Statement

“Judging a show like this can be extremely challenging especially when you have a mix of professional and amateur artists. In general, I look for mastery of the chosen medium, overall composition, color sensibilities, and content. Cliche subjects like sunsets, barns, and chubby babies usually do not get high marks with me, so please forgive my bias. I could have easily included another dozen works. I was drawn to “Sweet Potato" by the artist’s willingness to take such a humble and even unattractive subject and make it the center of the composition.”
