Arts by the Articulate

The Artists Who Teach Juried Exhibition 2016 was greatly anticipated this year because for the first time there were five south-side colleges and universities who participated. Viewers will see works by 85 artists who teach professionally at institutions such as The Art Institute of Virginia Beach, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Virginia Wesleyan College and The Visual Arts Center of TCC. We are so excited to host 132 art works that vary in media including drawing, watercolor, paint, photography and more! Not to mention these works also include two and three dimensional media in traditional and contemporary themes. The exhibition will be on display at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center through May 1!

Meet the Juror

Meet Pat Kirby, a well-known Tidewater artist that has a collection of awards for her drawings and oil paintings. She studied Drawing, Painting and Sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago and received her BFA in Art History from Old Dominion University. Kirby selected 132 artworks by 85 artists to be considered for the awards. She examined each creation numerous times and realized that there were more “…quality works in this show; more than there were potential awards.” The pieces that had demonstrated good craftsmanship, composition and creative content were in her highest interest. “I hope you feel that the award reflect these criteria. All in all, I think our students’ art education is in good hands.”
